Fifty Shades *update*

CHRISTIAN GREY HAS BEEN CHOSEN. Nah, just kidding. But I have a feeling the studio might disappoint me. Because judging by the actors rumored to be in the running to play the infamous sex ninja, I might be forced to watch a pretty boy spank Ana Steele's brains out.

As Universal and Focus Features recently announced, Kelly Marcel will be writing the screenplay for the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey (you can read my review here). She cocreated Terra Novawhich looks like another Lost series but dumber. However she also wrote the script for Saving Mr. Banks starring Tom Hanks, and that sounds a little more promising.

Twilight taught us that a good screenwriter can make or break a film adaptation of a book. I don't believe Melissa Rosenberg is given enough credit for her scripts. Because although I'm a big fan of the series, I think I'm the only person in the world who prefers the movies to the books. Thanks to Rosenberg, I didn't have to watch Robert Pattinson utter cringeworthy lines like "Just because I'm resisting the wine doesn't mean I can't appreciate the bouquet" (shudder).

So can Kelly Marcel take cheesy Mom Porn and turn it into box office gold? If fortune's on our side, we won't have to endure Ana's "subconscious" and "inner goddess" dancing around the room every time Christian pulls out his riding crop.

With the right director, I think Fifty Shades would have the potential to be a sophisticated film. But with the right cast, it could be a GOLD MINE.

I have heard Ian Somerhalder's name thrown around a lot. But if there is a higher power out there, I'm praying he won't let this happen. The man looks incapable of carrying a conversation without posing.

Also, last week my sister pointed out a picture that really irked me.

I'm not even going to say anything. Universal, if you're reading this, please rethink your casting decision.

Personally I think the studio will cast unknowns, or at least relatively unknown actors. It would leave enough ambiguity for viewers to "meet" the characters for the first time, so to speak. Or they might cast one big name as one of the leads.

I could see Alexis Bledel playing Ana. She fits the physical description and has an innocent look about her. More importantly, she seems intelligent, much more so than the Ana I imagined when I read the book. I might like the character more if it looked like there were some sort of thought process before going out with a nymphomaniac.
