I've heard some say that Tim Burton has lost his touch. I strongly disagree, especially after watching The Killers' music video for "Here With Me," starring Winona Ryder. The two collaborated on the 1988 film Beetlejuice and two years later on Edward Scissorhands.
It's a touching story about a boy who falls in love with a mannequin (played by Winona Ryder) that he fantasizes coming to life. It's weird and sweet all at the same time. Classic Tim Burton, it's got a pasty white goth kid that stands expressionless for most of the video. (Do you think Tim told him to do that?) He looks a lot like the guy from Submarine, but that's just me.
Winona Ryder's brief appearance in the video is charming. She is so beautiful, even when playing a bald mannequin. Funny enough, her wax figure in a museum was Burton's inspiration for the video:
"The first time I saw The Killers perform live was in Blackpool, UK shortly after completing work on our first collaboration, the music video for Bones. When I heard the song Here With Me I remembered seeing a wax figure of Winona in Louis Tussaud's Waxworks in Blackpool. The concept of the video is inspired by the 1935 film 'Mad Love,' starring Peter Lorre, as well as the works of Mario Bava."
I love angsty teen romance, especially the gothic kind. Take that, haters.
